Can I replace Magnetek 950 converter with a PowerMax PM3-55? I did some research and as far as I can tell the PowerMax PM3-55 is a good replacement but wanted to confirm. Also I noticed some converters come with new fuse boards but are a little more expensive. I know this allows for all lines to filter through the battery but not sure what this

Our new to us Landau is equipped with a Magnetek 950 50 amp converter/charger that's showing a fluctuating output ranging from 11.2 volts to 13.5 volts. Cleaning the accumulated crud from the converter chassis and tightening all connections had no effect. Then again, it is a Magnetek, and it is 13 years old, so I'm thinking it has to go.

Converter, Magnetek 950-2. Out put 11.4 volts. Was 13.8. I think it had some thing to do with distroying one of my coach battries. The converter was new in 1992 and I checked the out put three days ago while installing a new battery. Have pulled it and bench checked today. I used a 50 watt light bulb for the load.

You could replace the entire converter, but the easy solution is one of the upgrades that use the original RV Magnetek converter box and circuit breakers (for the 120 VAC side) yet replace the guts and the fuse board (12 VDC side).
