I just did it to my 07 custom sporty with no problem. But on the 03 Ultra a puller rod needs to pull up the cartridge at the same time compression must be applied to the spring in order to thread the small nut to the cartridge. The fork cap nut is attached later. I can't see anyway to do this without the HD fork compression tool.
